Afridiziak Theatre News is a website celebrating African-Caribbean theatre. Launched in September 2008, this is the UK’s one-stop guide to all
things theatre-related from an African-Caribbean perspective.
From theatre listings, interviews with Whoopi Goldberg, Michelle Williams, Oliver Samuels and Bashy to all the latest reviews and news –
Afridiziak Theatre fills the gap for anyone wanting to know all that’s happening in the rich, cultural tapestry of black theatre. The site was set
up by journalist Sophia Jackson who saw an opportunity and ran with it. The patron of Afridiziak Theatre News is acclaimed playwright and
comedian, Angie Le Mar (Forty, Do You Know Where Your Daughter Is? and The Brothers).

Since the site was launched, Afridiziak Theatre News has held talks on theatre, worked with Straight to Audience Productions, Talawa Theatre
Company, The Royal Shakespeare Company, Geoff Schumann – Treading the Boards, Lime magazine and now the Black Youth Achievement Awards.
We have also been featured in Pride magazine, Arts Hub, Ethno News, The Gate Post, Itz Caribbean and on Colourful Radio.

Screen Nation, founded in 2003 by independent film producer Charles Thompson produces the Screen Nation Film & TV Awards, which
uniquely is the only annual international celebration of achievement within urban world cinema and TV in the UK. The event is now confirmed
as ‘the’ industry diversity event recognised and supported by industry bodies and all major terrestrial and satellite broadcasters. Celebrating
the cascade of achievements that have helped enrich world and UK cinema & TV with cultural diversity, the Awards combine the glamour of
international movie stars alongside British talent and has been dubbed by the media as the ‘Black Bafta’s’.
Screen Nation is committed to promoting equality and social inclusion through the development and establishment of a vibrant black British
screen media sector. Via the Screen Nation Foundation and various commercial products the organisation acts as a platform for change,
raising the profile of black talent, and is set up with the sole purpose of promoting greater cultural diversity in the world of film & TV in the UK.
Screen Nation recognises the significant influence the black community has on popular culture, but although the cultural landscape is
positively evolving sees the under-representation of black people in UK media. Through the binding forces of partnership, participation and
equity the work of Screen Nation creates a synergy between the black media sector, business, audiences and the community at large,
allowing opportunities to flourish.
