Then count yourself lucky as the Lloyds TSB Cardiff Half Marathon is once again returning for a triumphant 11th year, and welcomes both first timers and professional athletes into the running. Marking its first year as a two-day event, you can bet your gym socks that it will be crammed full with more of the family friendly fun that it has become well known for. What’s more, you lucky speed freaks will be pleased to know that as part of the Run Britain Grand Prix Series, this year’s event has been picked to host the 2013 British Half Marathon Championship. As such, you can expect to rub shoulders with some of the best athletes in their fields from across the UK, so try not to get performance anxiety. For that whole extra day added, you can sign up for the 2.4 kilometre Family Fun Run – a good opportunity to tire the children out before bedtime and the Mile Road Race which does exactly what it says on the tin. Starting at Cardiff Castle, the route for the half marathon itself will wind you round the most iconic landmarks Cardiff has to offer, such as Cardiff City Stadium, the Penarth Marina and the Wales Millennium Centre – where up to 20,000 runners and 40,000 spectators will be jogging and cheering until their respective body parts are sore.
