Surf and sounds in Porthcawl
rom 25 to 27 October Porthcawl’s Splashup is one of the most exciting watersports and musical weekend in South Wales The dramatic lit-up Esplanade sets the scene for the night surf, projection show and live music which starts from 8pm on both Friday and Saturday nights. Jamie Bowen, from Buska Promotions, said: “Class acts will storm the bill, but we’ve put forward slots for local artists so sample them and vote on www. buska.co.uk/vote!” From 10am to late afternoon on Saturday you can see surf competitions and try watersports - such as surfing and power kiting at Rest Bay and stand up paddleboarding on Coney Beach - all for free. All day open-top double-decker buses give unique coastline views as they shuttle between the beaches and the live music, segway and other family friendly fun in the town centre. The run up to Splashup includes the World Record Surf attempt on Coney Beach Saturday 14 Sept and arts workshops. The whole movement is collaboration between local watersports companies and associations, and funded through Bridgend Council, Arts Council of Wales and the European Regional Development Fund.
