Plucky Narberth Museum Makes Final Of Art Fund Prize

Narberth Museum has been named as one of 10 finalist museums and galleries in the running for to the prestigious £ 100,000 Art Fund prize for Museum Of The Year . Situated in Pembrokeshire , the Welsh market town of Narberth is home to a little over 2000 people and is most famous perhaps for being at the epicentre of the 19th century Rebecca Riots , when angry farmers dressed as women to pull down tollgates and storm workhouses . Having re-opened in July last year after 10 years of closure , the humble community museum is competing against some of the country ’ s most established institutions including Kelvingrove Art gallery And Museum in Glasgow and England ’ s first public art gallery , Dulwich Picture Gallery . The prize looks at the best curatorial and programming in British museums with a focus on events that took place in 2012 , This year it ’ s being judged by the likes of writer and broadcaster Bettany Hughes and artists Bob and Roberta Smith . The winner will be announced on Tues 4 June .

Tenovus Goodnight Walk

MARKING 13 YEARS SINCE the birth of contemporary art gallery g39 , It Was Never Going To Be Straightforward is a brand new compendium detailing the work of the gallery and featuring commissions from James Green , Llyr Williams , matthews & allen , and articles from David Trigg and Dave Ball amongst others . Limited to 100 copies , the book costs £ 19.95 and is available from the gallery ’ s website ( www . g39 . org ) and also at the gallery .
SOUP ’ D UP ! IS AN EVENT THAT looks to fund small to mediumsized creative projects through a shared community meal . A group of people come together to share a meal ( soup , usually ) sold for an affordable price . All the income from this is given as a grant to support a creative project . Grant applications are accepted prior to the meal , and everyone who attends the meal gets one vote to determine who receives the grant . Instead of late-night revellers in pursuit of a good time , on Sat 11 May , Cardiff ’ s city streets will be lined with people walking in support of the Tenovus . In celebration of their 70th
anniversary , Tenovus invite people to join their Goodnight Walk in order to remember and celebrate the lives of people in Wales who have been lost to cancer . As Wales ’ leading cancer charity , Tenovus help individuals with cancer and their families , providing a vital network of advice and support . There will be two walks taking place on the night , and participants can choose whether to walk five miles or 10 depending on
their preference . Registration costs £ 12 , and both walks will start and end at Cardiff City Stadium . Whether you have lost someone to cancer or not , the Tenovus Goodnight Walk is a fantastic way to raise some money and have some fun in the process – certainly ynot your average Saturday night out .

PHOTOMARATHON RETURNS on Sat 25 May with hundreds expected to partake in the annual competition which sees amateur and professional photographers alike attempting to compile 12 creative photos on 12 different topics which will be revealed throughout the day at the Wales Millennium Centre .
