Bar 44 in Cowbridge and Penarth are hosting a Welsh Sherry Festival! As obsessive sherry fiends, we will be putting on a week-long celebration of all things Sherry, as part of International Sherry Week, and the renaissance of sherry worldwide. This global celebration is taking place 2nd-8th June. Celebrations include: SHERRY SHENANIGANS Rhiannon Harry gets a taste for The Welsh Sherry Festival. FANCY yourself as a sherry connoisseur? Then saunter along to Bar 44 and soak up the sherrysphere of the Welsh Sherry Festival. Taking place early this month the much loved tapas bar, which is based in both Penarth and Cowbridge, is raising a toast to the fortified wine by embracing International Sherry Week. And who is better to do the job than one of the only bars in Wales to stock the limited edition Tio Pepe Fino En Rama 2014? With only 60 barrels produced worldwide of this raw, almost unfiltered Sherry, this might be your only chance to try some. As well as having super exclusive sherries Bar 44 will be serving a special daily tapas menu in which each dish will be individually served with a sherry. On top of that all evening guests will receive a complementary slice of Jamón Special daily tapas menus, with each dish  individually paired with a sherry ◊ Sherry flights available all week, perfect for an introduction to sherry ◊ Each evening guests ordering a sherry receive a complementary slice of Jamón Ibérico & Olives ◊ Tuesday 3rd June in Bar 44 Penarth Delgado Zuleta Gourmet evening Ibérico and Arbequina Olives with every glass of sherry ordered. There will be a perfect introduction to sherry with the ‘sherry sessions’ – classes hosted by Bar 44 co-founder Owen Morgan, the only person in Wales with an official Certified Sherry Educator qualification. The sessions will be running throughout the week and are a great way to get more sherry aware. On Tues 3 June the Penarth branch will be putting on a Delgado Zuleta Gourmet evening with a five course tasting menu and wine, whereas the Cowbridge bar will be screening a live tasting with wine maker Antonio Flores from Gonzalez Byass, one of Spain’s most well-known sherry bodegas, on Thurs 5 June. The festival will finish on Sat 7 June (Cowbridge) / Sun 8th June (Penarth) with the Great Welsh Sherry Tasting: an open house for sherry lovers or anyone with an inquisitive mind. Viva la fiesta!
