JUNE! How do I love thee? Let me count the ways … Thou hast more festivals, that’ s fo sho! Hijinx Theatre once again bring us Unity, Wales’ largest inclusive arts fest, featuring awardwinning companies made up of disabled and non-disabled performers. Ten days of fun‘ n’ frolicks, it runs from Wed 12-Sat 22 June. The Big Cardiff Mini Film Festival on Mon 23 runs across a range of venues and offers screenings, masterclasses and networking hubs. The International Ceramics Festival in Aberystwyth also looks to be very interesting and worth a looksee. It’ s a proper weekend shindig with loads to do and see by the sounds of it! Ollie Reed makes an appearance in the‘ diff on Tues 4 June in Wild Thing, a“ blistering solo show” that also features Keith Moon. That’ s at the Royal Welsh College Of Music And Drama. I am also looking forward to Diary Of A Madman which shows as part of the Hay Festival on the 1st. The fabulous and funny Lucy Porter is at Newport’ s The Riverfront on Sat 8, too. A lovely woman who I’ ve gigged with before, she is one of my favourite comics. In Lit Land, Back Of The Pub Poetry Club returns to Cardiff on Sat 15. The feature poet is Jack Pascoe and there are open mic spots available – contact me for more info! On Thurs 13, poet Robert Minhinnick will be reading at the Imperial Hotel in Merthyr, and on Sat 8 my fave Welsh writer Rachel Trezise, the amazeballs Boyd Clack, and Library Of Wales series editor Professor Dai Smith will be conducting a literary bus tour through the Rhondda. Contact Literature Wales for more details on that. I am also dying to see storyteller Daniel Morden in Chepstow on Fri 7. Car share from Cardiff anyone? Surface is“ a photographic project that takes a look at the subtle nuance of human interaction”. Get yourself to the Riverfront from Fri 7 for that! Artist in residence Gemma Copp will be at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery in Swansea from Tues 18, and Scribbles seems like a fun exhibition; it features arts and crafts from local artists in the pretty Porthcawl Pavilion from the Tues 11. A one-day incense making course, Myth, Medicine, And Magic in Cardiff on the Sat 8 promises a special, scented experience, and Green City will be organising a celebration at the WMC on Sat 15, too.
