IT’ S PLANE TO SEE IN SWANSEA
With its beautiful sweeping seaside vistas, Swansea Bay provides the ideal location for the annual Wales National Air Show, which returns on Sat 13 and Sun 14 July. During the weekend, witness a wide variety of mind-blowing tricks by the professional aircraft teams against the stunning coastal backdrop. The captivating air displays will feature the renowned Red Arrows – one of the world’ s premier aerobatic teams and acting ambassador of Great Britain – and the Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight which presents the Lancaster bomber – the legendary British heavy bomber used by the Royal Navy in the Second World War – as well as the Spitfire and the Hurricane. The RAF will also carry out an exhilarating search and rescue demonstration in which you will be able to see the invaluable work of the Sea King, and find out about its complex electrical communication devices and navigation system. As well as the astonishing air displays, there will also be a selection of interactive ground displays, where visitors will be able to get involved with the weekend’ s activities.

A glorious combination of operatic black-tie dinners, a celebration of classical music talent, and a fantastic market day for all the family, the Margam Festival is a cultured stroll through the arts in the rolling grounds of Margam Park. Over the course of July, enjoy an evening of anecdotes with former Irish rugby legend Fergus Slattery, a meet and greet with Labour politician Tony Benn or the chance to experience a world-class opera dinner with some of the nation’ s greatest performers. The main event falls to the fantastic Margam Market Day which hosts an unbeatable range of stalls, food and drink tasting, activities, children’ s shows and all sorts of entertaining workshops and demonstrations on Sun 7 July. Whether inside the castle or at the beautiful Orangery, the intriguing festival programme features some fantastic variety in the bucolic surroundings of Margam Park.

AS PART OF THE ON-GOING Cardiff summer festival, Cardiff Bay’ s Roald Dahl Plass is to be transformed into an urban beach this as 3000 tonnes of sand are to be deposited from Sat 27 July- Sun 1 Sept. A child-friendly beach complete with deck chairs, rides, stalls, goal posts and volleyball nets, the attraction aims to bring a taste of the traditional seaside to the heart of Cardiff. THE FANTASTIC DARKENED Rooms project presents Airplane on Fri 12 July at The Gate Arts Centre in Cardiff. Darkened Rooms are famed for presenting great films in unusual places across South Wales, and Airplane, the cult 1980 film starring the late Leslie Nielsen, promises to be one of their funniest screenings yet.
