CAERPHILLY LIGHTS UP
The annual River Of Light Lantern Parade is returning to Caerphilly. To try and get you in
the festive spirit with a night of Christmassy magic, hundreds of lanterns will be parading
through and town and will welcome Santa just in time for Christmas.
You can witness the procession of Christmas glow from the very start at Caerphilly Railway
Station, and follow the beautiful lantern parade through Caerphilly town. The river of light
will end with a dazzling fireworks display over Caerphilly Castle.
In preparation for this annual tradition Caerphilly County Borough Council will be holding
River of Light workshops for people to come and make their own lanterns, at Caerphilly
Leisure Centre between Sun 1 and Sat 21 Dec. The different Christmassy activity offers a
fun and crafty way to get involved, and is a good excuse for the council to get you to do all
the creative work. HW

FIGHTING FLU
As winter is on its way, now is the best time to start
preparing yourself for a fight with a sore throat,
temperature and the worst of all - flu. Unlike normal coughs
and colds Flu cannot be treated with simple medications,
tea and a few lazy days in bed. If you are over 65 or suffer
with long term illnesses such as asthma or diabetes, flu
can cause serious illness which will leave you bed stricken
and may result in an emergency trip to hospital, which can
have long term consequences.
Flu is caused by a virus that changes every year and
spreads very easily and quickly, which is why an annual
vaccination is vital in order to protect you and your family
from flu. If you are over 65 or in any of the at risk groups,
some of which identified on page 11, get your free vaccine
from your GP practices and some local pharmacies. VS
