SPROATLY SMITH The Globe At Hay, Hay On Wye, Fri 9 Aug Tickets: £ 5. Info: 01497 821762 / www. globeathay. org Rooted in Herefordshire, seven-piece psychedelic folk band Sproatly Smith have a respected reputation among folk fans, renowned for both live performances and recorded work. Their spell-bounding sound draws from mythical folklore with songs referencing spirited pixies, legends and adventures. Sproatly Smith’ s set in The Globe At Hay this month promises to be an atmospheric assortment of drifting, delicate female harmonies and eerily memorable finger-picked guitar riffs, with obscure samples and peculiar effects thrown into the captivating mix. Live performances are widely acclaimed as being gigs of unusual enchanting beauty with a mystical quality, leaving you enticed by their unconstrained, spiritual sound. Sproatly Smith, therefore, is surely one to watch on the folk scene.
