good and well-being of the community.
Areas of impact to be addressed by United Way include
education through early and middle grade reading programs,
financial stability through workforce development, and health
through healthy food choices, youth obesity prevention
and access to drug and alcohol prevention training and
counseling.
Through United Way, small contributions add up to make a
meaningful difference, he says.
For instance, a $1 a week contribution, or $52 a year, can
add up with several workers doing the same thing. Donations
of other sums can help provide youth activities, drug or
alcohol counseling, meals for shut-in senior citizens and more.
βThe poverty rate for this area is higher than the state and
national averages, and there is an accompanying need for
food, housing, substance abuse treatment, elder care and
other assistance is great,β Ashcraft says.
