acer’s
age
Over the years one thing has become quite evident to me. The players
that I am honored to interview for Pacer’s Page are not only competitive,
accomplished darters, they also share a deep love and respect for the
grand old game we call darts.
Lets chat with Micki Hughes. She lives in Pittsburgh along with her
husband, Bill, and seven children: Chad, Alexis, Brandon, Madison,
Zaye, Brianna and Araina. For the past 16 years she has been employed
by the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Just how does Micki
juggle a career and a family and still find time to be a competitive darter? She told me, “What we do is get the whole family involved.”

Pacer: Micki, I’ve just got to ask,
just what do you mean by getting
the whole family involved?
Micki: Well, I have to admit that
there are times when I would like
to be able to devote more time to
playing darts, but somehow, someway I find a way to keep it a part of
my life. In fact, the whole family
loves the game. We have a Galaxy
board right in the living room and
everybody plays, even the little
ones! The older children are really
into it, and have already done well
in youth competition. I’m going
to be 50 years old, and have been
playing since before I was 21. The
game is just a part of my life and
always will be. My husband and I
laugh that when we’re old and gray
and getting around on walkers we
are still gonna make it up to the
throw line. I’ve made it through
two knee replacements, so old age
doesn’t scare me a bit! In fact, the
game has become a part of our
family. My kids have been around
the game since they were in strollers, and they will probably be like
me and Bill and be playing when
they are 50.
Pacer: Micki, just how did you
get all of this started?
Micki: I met a guy named Bob
years ago who played in an in-house
league at a place called Skydivers,
and I asked him to teach me how
to play. Oddly enough it turned
out that darts was a game that he
could take or leave, but the game

kind of instantly consumed me.
It has been a part of my life ever
since. In fact, I don’t think Bill
and I would have ever gotten married if we both didn’t love darts. I
play league on Mondays and Bill
plays on Tuesdays. Ocasionally
my 21 year old son, Chad, watches
the kids and we hit a local blind
draw. In fact, we recently celebrated our 15th anniversary by
playing in a $1,000 added Blind
Draw at Mickey’s Place. We even
ate dinner there and had a great
time. How else would you want to
spend your 15th anniversary (both
laughing)!
Pacer: Despite your busy schedule, you have still found the time
to make your presence felt at the
