St Clare of Assisi Opening and Blessing of new Resource C entre and Ad m i n i s t r a t i o n B u i l d i n g On Wednesday 21 August St Clare of Assisi Primary School Conder (SCA) hosted a very special Building Opening and Blessing ceremony. Fr John Armstrong blessed and officially opened the refurbished Resource Centre and Administration Block. Mr John Barker, Head of Finance and Planning Services, addressed the school community and guests. He acknowledged the journey the school had taken since its opening in 1994. Mr Barker thanked the St Clare of Assisi staff, students and parents for the way in which they worked together to gain these wonderful and innovative learning spaces. Mr Gerard Heffernan, St Clare of Assisi Community Council Chairperson, formally welcomed the invited guests to the gathering. Mr Heffernan noted in his address that many cohorts of students at the school will enjoy these facilities as they progress through their primary school years at SCA! The ceremony was well attended by many distinguished guests, including Ms Gai Brodtmann MP, Mr Brendan Smythe MLA, Mr Andrew Wall MLA, Principals from many of the Archdiocesan Catholic schools, Catholic Education Office staff and Community Council members. Miss Rachel Smith, Acting Principal of St Clare of Assisi, acknowledged the financial support of the St Clare of Assisi Community. She said that “the success of the refurbishment was due to the enthusiasm and support of parents, staff and students, as well as the professionalism of the architects Collard, Clarke and Jackson and builders R and F Management”. Miss Smith also congratulated all involved in the opening saying that “this project was six years in the making and illustrated the school’s commitment to contemporary learning for the twenty-first century. The refurbished Resource Centre is not only a building with four walls and a roof, but rather a building where our students can come together for collaborative learning experiences while providing them with the latest in IT technology to ensure they have the necessary tools and resources to equip them for the future. Our refurbished Administration area and new staffroom allow for the successful running and development of our wonderful school”. The students are enjoying using these wonderful new facilities.
