Midlands Area Family Day
CIRO members , partners , and their children recently enjoyed an exciting family day hosted by the Midlands Area Council at Statfold Barn Railway in Tamworth .
Families were treated to an extraordinary spectacle , witnessing more operational steam locomotives in just one hour than anywhere else in the UK .
Home to one of the largest collections of rare and historic locomotives globally , the Statfold Barn Railway and Museum is a treasure trove for train enthusiasts . It proudly features the only narrow-gauge Roundhouse in the UK , with a double-track mainline that captivated families with the experience of watching trains running parallel and passing each other .
Other facilities made Statfold Barn Railway a site attraction for a family and friends ’ fun gettogether . The coaches positioned themselves at the balcony ends so family members could immerse themselves in steam and watch the locomotives turn on the turntable at Statfold Junction .
The Statfold Barn Railway is known for its fierce gradients and tight corners tracks . No wonder there were freight trains throughout the day to add to the excitement . At the height of the fun day were dedicated photography strategically located at various railway points .
Due to the popularity of last year ’ s family event , places were increased to 50 to give more families room to join in the fun this year . It was a day filled with laughter , learning , and lasting memories !
