Dunkerque ’ s tank to ship deal
In June Dunkirk ’ s LNG Terminal and Dunkerque-Port , situated in North West France signed an agreement for the development of an LNG supply station . The use of LNG by shipping has grown significantly in recent months with new projects ( orders for ships , LNG bunker stations , etc ) and Dunkerque-Port is convinced of the role that LNG will play in reducing greenhouse gases . A month after signing the agreement , Dunkerque LNG and Total Marine Fuels Global Solutions ( TMFGS ) announced that they would supply LNG to the ‘ Honfleur ’, the first French ferry running on LNG , which will ply between the French port of Ouistreham and Portsmouth , in the UK , as of 2019 . The vessel is being built by Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellshaft shipyard in Germany . Brittany Ferries says it will be the most environmentally-friendly vessel operating on the English Channel . TMFGS , a division of TOTAL Group in charge of marketing marine fuels , has joined forces with French logistics form Groupe Charles André ( CGA ) to set up a supply chain for LNG using ISO tank containers . GCA will provide and transport the tank containers , which are equipped with geolocation trackers and pressure sensors .
Dunkerque LNG will supply fuel for a ferry service between France and the UK
Transported by truck from Dunkirk to Ouistreham , the containers will be lifted aboard the cruise ferry using onboard cranes , to supply a fixed LNG storage tank at the rear of the superstructure . Once empty , the containers will be offloaded at the next call at Ouistreham and replaced by full containers . Frédéric Pouget , group maritime port and operations director of Brittany Ferries , said the shipping industry needs access to LNG . “ This partnership demonstrates that unique , local solutions can be developed to supply LNG to ships . In the first step of the upcoming energy transformation , Brittany Ferries intends to make LNG the preferred fuel for its future owned newbuilds ,” he commented . The tank truck loading dock broadens Dunkerque LNG ’ s offering , capturing more value from its facilities , according to president Béatrice Prud ’ homme . “ We believe in the advantages of LNG fuel and we are pleased to be teaming up with Total and leveraging its industrial expertise to help create an LNG fuel supply chain . It is the first step toward other infrastructure for LNG fuel ,” she said . In addition to supplying the fuel to Brittany Ferries , all deliveries made by GCA will be in LNG-fuelled trucks .

LBC Tank Terminals has given an update on the expansion of its Botlek ,
Rotterdam site . The aim of the project , dubbed ‘ Rainbow ’, is to triple the current capacity and significantly improve jetty and land infrastructure . It adheres to the three pillars of LBC ’ s business strategy ( build-out , optimise , expand ) and reflects LBC Rotterdam ’ s ambition to become the safest and most efficient terminal in Port of Rotterdam when it comes to ship-to-shore interface and ship-turnaround times . After the initial groundbreaking in February 2016 , LBC commissioned the construction of 16 new stainless steel heated and insulated chemical storage tanks with a capacity of 36,000 cbm . The group chose to do this off-site in order to reduce any potential safety and operational impacts . Following construction , these new tanks were shipped to the terminal and at the end of November 2016 they were safely installed onto their foundation with no disruption to operations . This immediately upped capacity by 50 percent . Currently , work is being to fill the recently constructed pipe racks with 20,000m of piping next to a state of the art firefighting system . The new centralised truck loading installations are being fitted complete with six new weighbridges . Simultaneous to the on-site activities , partners are busy working at three separate locations on other aspects of the Rainbow Project . At the ‘ Fruit harbour ’ wharf the jetty structure is being constructed , that will eventually be brought to the site in one piece . Delmeco is building the armature for the jetty and the results of the recently conducted FAT ( factory acceptance test ) in Goes were impressive . At a third location , in Antwerp , Belgium , all prefabrication activities for the piping are being conducted . Meanwhile , Wanhua-BorsodChem is setting up an MDI bulk storage facility at LBC Rotterdam . MDI ( methylene diphenyl diisocyanate ) is an aromatic diisocyanate used in the manufacture of rigid polyurethane . In response to the growing demand for the chemical in Europe market and to improve its services and flexibility , Wanhua & BorsodChem announced that they will work together with LBC Rotterdam and rent two new tanks for the MDI products . The facility is ideally located to serve as Wanhua & BorsodChem ’ s regional European distribution hub for MDI products imported from China . The MDI tanks were commissioned in July 2017 . Wanhua is the largest MDI producer in the world , while BorsodChem is the leading producer of MDI , TDI and other speciality chemicals in Central and Eastern Europe .
