5th Annual Kustom Kulture Festival:
V.I.P. Tiki Party: May 31st, 2013
By Vincent Drambuie with Photos by SuicideSquirrl and Gordy Lee
A typical Friday night would find one Vincent Drambuie in a rusty lawnchair watching
reruns of I Dream of Jeannie. But magically, like Jeannie herself had crossed her arms
and nodded her head with that weird boinging noise, something wonderful happened.
Chuck Mitchell of the Kustom Kulture Festival called yours truly and asked if I would be
interested in hosting the VIP Pinup Pageant.
Yes, yes I would.
So it was off to Clearwater Casino on the
Kitsap Peninsula, a wonderful backdrop for
the events of the night. The grandeur of the
Pacific Northwest mixed beautifully with the
pinup paradise theme that set the tone for
the evening. The Clearwater event lawn was
done up like a Hawaiian luau, complete with
tiki torches and exotic flower-filled pineapples
at every table.
To make the evening even more special, I
found out that my co-host for the evening was
the charming and lovely international pinup
model Becky Lee. If you have ever met Becky
Lee, you know that she is style and grace on
a plate. A real angel. No, really, a real angel.
Becky works for the Pinup Angels raising
money to send care packages to our troops
overseas. A class act all around.
Besides the pinup contest, there was a full
evening of entertainment with sets by the
Twang Shifters, Chuck Hughes and the Hillbilly Hellcats, and the Queen Pirate Sarah
Linkoff (love that gal). If that wasn’t enough,
the evening was spiced up with a couple sets
by Seattle burlesque wonder Fuschia Fox,
whose bump-and-grind had jaws dropping
like prom dresses at midnight.
Now let’s talk about the spread. The catering
staff at Clearwater pulled no punches when it
came to the eats. Spare ribs, chicken, spamfried rice (don’t knock it till you try it), and the
piece de la resistance: a full roasted pig that I
named Wilbur… until I got a lot of dirty looks
from the pinup contestants.
The pinup contest itself was quite a shindig.
All the contestants were handpicked from
around the Pacific Northwest to compete
in this invite-only event. Rockabilly cat Levi
Dexter crowned our new queen and her court.
Second runner-up was Alley Hellcat, she’s
pure rock n’ roll, first runner-up was the redhaired beauty Kitty Mansfield. And… drum roll
please… the grand prize winner was Tina Tokyo, who is so sweet and so petite.
Tina took home a $1000 cash prize presented
to her by Bob and Kar
