PROGRAMMING

With our first full year of in-person youth and family audiences since the onset of the pandemic , this season marked a year of major milestones for education programming .
14,578 students in grades
Pre-K – 8 returned to the Meyerhoff for the first full season of in-person
Midweek Education Concerts since early 2020 .
Students in grades Pre-K – 8 ( and more than 200 school buses ) returned in full force to the Meyerhoff for Midweek Education Concerts . Tickets ( and in Baltimore City , transportation ) remained free for all Title I schools , and free for everyone on-demand via OffStage . Another post-pandemic milestone , Family Concerts brought music and interactive , age-appropriate activities presented in partnership with Port Discovery , the Waldorf School , and Music & Arts back to | the Meyerhoff on select Saturdays . We also relaunched Music Box Concerts for our youngest listeners ( babies and toddlers ) at new locations , including a free outdoor performance at The Chrysalis in Merriweather Park . Families in Cecil and Frederick counties also experienced a performance in their back yard thanks to summer visits by BSO musicians and Artistic Partner Wordsmith to the Elkton Library and SkyStage .
We continued to nurture the musicianship of our region ’ s most talented students , launching a new sectional-based coaching partnership with Howard County Public Schools and welcoming Baltimore County Public Schools back for a celebratory side-by-side experience . This partnership saw dozens of students rehearse side-by-side with the BSO at the Meyerhoff for approximately 1,500 of their peers , teachers , and family members . And , of course , 90 adult amateur musicians from around the country ( and the world ) spent an immersive week learning , rehearsing , and performing with the BSO in the return of our weeklong “ fantasy camp ,” BSO Academy .
Our signature initiatives also marked significant anniversaries in special ways . OrchKids celebrated 15 years of programming with its first-ever “ take over ” and celebratory concert at the Meyerhoff . The Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestras celebrated ten years in several ways , including their first European tour .
