A Special Welcome to Jonathon Heyward

BSO executive staff with Music Director Designate Jonathon Heyward in New York .
This summer , the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra announced Jonathon Heyward as its next Music Director . With a five-year contract that begins in the 2023-24 season , Jonathon assumes the role of Music Director Designate for the 2022 – 23 season , and , while he ’ s not quite officially on the BSO podium , we still had the chance to catch him in action for a very special occasion in a conductor ’ s career : a Lincoln Center debut !
On August 2 and 3 , members of the BSO family including executive staff and donors made their way to New York to support Jonathon during this momentous occasion . As part of the Mostly Mozart Festival , Jonathon conducted a program including Carlos Simon ’ s Fate Now Conquers , Price ’ s Adoration , Beethoven ’ s Symphony No . 2 , and Vieuxtemps ’ Violin Concerto No . 5 with superstar violinist Joshua Bell . Celebrations continued with Jonathon and Joshua at a post-concert reception at the rooftop of the Empire Hotel !
If you haven ’ t yet seen Jonathon in action , he ’ ll be back on May 4 – 7 with pianist Khatia Buniatishvili and May 19 – 21 with composer and double bassist Xavier Foley .

Congratulations , Jonathan Rush !
