A Summer of Music !

A full series of Star-Spangled Spectacular performances launched our summer season , including the highly anticipated , full return to Oregon Ridge Park and a trip to Boordy Vineyards . For the first time , the BSO also had the opportunity to join our city ’ s official Fourth of July celebration in Baltimore ’ s Inner Harbor ! At the newly renovated Rash Field , the Orchestra , joined by a dazzling fireworks display , capped a full day of festivities downtown .

The 2022 summer also kicked off our Music for Maryland Tour , a threeyear initiative to bring music to the entire state of Maryland . Each summer , the Orchestra will visit different counties throughout Maryland with curated performances just for them ! This summer , Associate Conductor Jonathan Rush led performances along the Potomac in Prince George ’ s County at National Harbor , at the Waterside Pavilion of Calvert County ’ s Marine Museum , and in Kent County ’ s Wilmer Park . Themes ranged from celebrations of the University of Maryland ’ s school spirit through their Fight Song ( in Prince George ’ s County ) to honoring Calvert County ’ s famous crabs in Jonathan Leshnoff ’ s Dancing Blue Crabs .
Each mini residency was also enhanced by education performances by small groups of BSO musicians . Young listeners in each of the jurisdictions noted above , and Carroll County , had the opportunity to enjoy either the BSO ’ s beloved Music Box performance with host Maria Broom or Artistic Partner Wordsmith ’ s rendition of Peter and the Wolf .
With a final stop in Howard County , the first leg of our tour closed with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer ’ s Stone™ at Merriweather Post Pavilion ! Concertgoers dressed up to represent their favorite Hogwarts house and enjoyed the full movie soundtrack performed by the Orchestra as the movie was projected on the giant screen .
Be on the lookout for the counties of next summer ’ s lineup !
