— Jack Everly
my experiences have led me here . From conducting on Broadway to conducting our great American Ballet Theatre all over the world , conducting the “ popular ” repertoire was a natural progression . It ’ s always a wonderful music experience and every step has led me to the next .
Speaking of your next step , what is next ?
JE : Well , I ’ m hardly retiring ! I remain the Principal Pops Conductor with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra , the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra , and National Art Centre Orchestra ( Ottawa ). Plus , guest conducting with many others . My contract with Indianapolis was just extended to 2026 , so I ’ ll be busy for quite a while !
What will you miss most about being in Baltimore , regularly ?
JE : Making music with the orchestra , working with our stellar stage crew and staff , and the audiences . It ’ s all very fulfilling for me as a musician and as a person . There ’ s never a time when there ’ s not an exciting moment .
I ’ m sure and certain many will be sad to see you go . What ’ s next for you in how you see your relationship with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra ?
JE : I hope to continue to have experiences here and not be a stranger . I love the BSO and the city !
JACK ’ S VERY FIRST PROGRAM WITH THE BSO — MARCH 5 , 1982 . HE STARTED AS PRINCIPAL POPS CONDUCTOR IN THE 2003 / 2004 SEASON .
Before you go , I have to ask … Do you have a favorite piece ? Or performance ?
JE : No . [ chuckles ] Everyone asks that but truly I don ’ t . We put on a great performance every single time . We do what feels like the impossible and we pull out all the stops , every time .
And you all do an amazing job , every time . Your final concert as Principal Pops Conductor …
JE : With Ashley Brown , Broadway ’ s original Mary Poppins : Rodgers , Hart , and Hammerstein . The last week in February . ( February 23 , 25 & 26 )
Thank you for your time , today !
From an exciting kick-off of our seasonopening gala to riveting crowd favorites like “ World of Dance ” and “ Revolution : The Music of the Beatles . A Symphonic Experience .”, Maestro Everly has demonstrated his musical prowess in countless ways . Although his tenure with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra is coming to a close at the end of the season , the last 17 years have proved his influence to be impactful to our loyal audiences and a catalyst to welcome new concertgoers into our halls . We look forward to welcoming the man behind the magic for our pops programming back to our stages in the future .

***** Thank you , and bravo , Jack .
