HONORING ALUMNI AND CELEBRATING SERVICE

D
uring an unseasonably warm week-
end in October, cheers for the home
teams echoed throughout Bryn
Athyn. Charter Day Weekend 2017 saw hun-
dreds of Bryn Athyn College and Academy of
the New Church Secondary Schools alumni
return to campus. They rooted for the Lions
as they took to Nelson Field, heard about
the College’s growth at an event in Brickman
Great Hall, and reunited with friends at the
sold-out Mix-n-Mingle at Cairnwood Estate.
They toured the campuses and raised money
for student scholarships—all under sunny
skies.
College students proudly marched
alongside ANCSS students in a procession
from campus to the Bryn Athyn Cathedral.
There, after a moving service, students joined
together on the lawn to sing the traditional

Academy songs and chat. Friday also saw
alumni and local families trek into the heart
of North Campus for Kite Day.
The College proudly honored four alum-
ni at the BAC all alumni reception on Friday
evening—Laurie Horan (AA ’76) as Outstand-
ing Volunteer, and Curtis Childs (AA ’06),
Becca Smith (BA ’03), and Lincoln Smith (BA
’03) as Distinguished Alumni—before host-
ing a young alumni event off-campus.
On Saturday, the College highlighted
students who are continuing BAC’s legacy of
service. At the traditional Charter Day ban-
quet, Dean of Academics and Chief Academ-
ic Officer Rev. Thane Glenn, Ph.D. (AA ’92)
spoke about the connection between New
Church doctrine and serving others. A video
