What do you want to tell the world about
Coach Hatchell? Something everyone
should undoubtedly know about Coach
Hatchell is the eccentric manner in which
he typically delivers his infallible teaching.
Indeed, his intentions are to be a math
teacher, but he executed more than that. He
gave us hope in our education, and estab-
lished the realization that we had so much
capability in ourselves. He has provided
more than just a subject in our curriculum, he
has gifted us with knowledge. He has given
us small peeks of what life is going to be like
and would question if we wanted to settle for
the mediocre ways. These small questions
are what made Coach Hatchell very different.
Yes, his teaching was amazing but he cared
much about all of us and made sure that we
elaborated the reality of our lives.
Favorite Memory: His care for his plants and his fascination with
blueberry donuts. I remember him once talking about a blueberry
donut tree and if anyone could ever figure out how to create one, to
let him know ASAP. I would always try to bring him one every time I
needed help in tutorials. If only you could see the grin that reached
from ear to ear when he received it.
Admire Most: The side note conversation we would have, one
of those being wormholes in space and what would happen if we
placed two mirrors between a person while traveling at the speed of
light. I admire all the limitless possibilities in which he’d try to elabo-
rate his thoughts and the lively curiosity that carried him into those
conversations. One thing that really stuck out was the way he would
not allow a distinctive person to adequately explain why they yielded
the incorrect answer on a question. If we tried to explain he would
halt us mid sentence. I didn’t grasp why at first until he explained to
us that by allowing others to undergo what you are doing wrong, it
gives them the opportunity to ponder the wrong way. The process in
which he thought made Coach Hatchell who he is today.
