Raphael McCall – Racing Post
I applied for the British Horseracing Development Programme 2023 as a means of gaining valuable experience in the racing industry alongside furthering my career in journalism , which I took steps to begin with a range of freelance work , whilst studying an International History & Politics degree at the University of Leeds . I am excited to learn about the inner workings of British Horseracing alongside gaining valuable journalistic experience with the Racing Post .
I do not come from a racing background , which means that I know first-hand that the fantastic stories that this sport produces can attract fans for life . I want to be able to say that in my career I have contributed positively to the growth and development of British Horseracing , whilst helping the sport navigate the delicate period it is currently faced with . The balancing act of attracting young fans , whilst not disregarding the fact that we must still appeal to the older generations , is key to seeing British Horseracing develop and thrive amidst the societal changes that are upon us .
