Krista O ’ Hara – British Horseracing Authority
I applied for the BHA Development Programme because it is highly respected in the horse racing industry and employers recognise the value of the training that participants receive . I am excited for the two-week training programme in Newmarket as it ’ s an opportunity to meet the other participants and learn about the different sectors within the industry . I also look forward to the opportunity to develop skills which will allow me to be successful in my placement with the BHA . Upon completing the Development Programme , I hope to secure employment in a role that allows me to help deliver competitive racing that caters for owners , trainers , jockeys , and racegoers . Horse racing is a sport that has the ability to appeal to everyone and I look forward to seeing how the sport will adapt to negotiate the challenges that it will face in the coming years .

I ’ m 20 years-old and currently live in Essex . I am in my final year at Queen Mary University of London studying history but my interests are mainly in the sporting sphere and involve horse racing more specifically . I have grown up in a family that loves horse racing who have been watching it for decades . One of my first memories is sitting watching the BBC ’ s coverage of racing from Ascot . I love horse racing and want to be a part of the horse racing industry , which is why I applied for this programme . I am excited to learn all about the horse racing industry and what goes on behind the scenes . I want to work in the industry full-time and hope to be a part of a new generation of people working within the sport . I am looking forward to working with Weatherbys during this Programme and finding out exactly how they operate within racing sphere .
