What does Beardwell believe makes a genuinely successful client-contractor relationship, and how do you build enough trust for clients to bring you into increasingly complex projects?
For us, it comes down to trust, and trust has to be earned.
We earn that trust by doing what we say we are going to do, being transparent in our communication and being prepared to have difficult conversations early when necessary.
Construction projects inevitably encounter challenges. A successful relationship is not one where there are never any problems; it is one where both parties have confidence that, when challenges arise, they will be managed openly, professionally and collaboratively.
Accessibility is also important. As Beardwell has grown, we have remained committed to ensuring that our senior team stays closely involved and readily available to our clients. Maintaining those relationships and retaining that personal approach is something we are very conscious of protecting as the business continues to develop.
What do you want Beardwell to be known for when it reaches its 50th anniversary, and what needs to change or evolve between now and then to get the business there?
We would like Beardwell to be recognised as one of the leading contractors in our market, particularly by clients who value expertise, reliability and a contractor they can trust to successfully deliver complex projects.
Achieving that ambition is not simply about increasing turnover. Our focus over the next 10 years is on strengthening the business in a sustainable way: continuing to improve our professionalism, investing in our people and developing the next generation of leaders who will guide Beardwell into the future.
We also need to embrace advancements in technology and respond to the changes taking place across the construction industry, while retaining the culture, values and personal approach that have been fundamental to Beardwell’ s success over the past 40 years.
