THE FOXES ACADEMY. Foxes Academy is an independent specialist college and training hotel for young adults with learning disabilities, where hospitality training is delivered in a ‘real’ working environment. It is open to the public, specialising in catering and culinary skills, allowing independent development as well as allowing individuals to enter employment. They also provide courses for the individuals to gain their necessary qualifications for work such as their NVQ and Culinary Skills certificate. Figure 25. Figure 26. Figure 28. The courses that is offered at Foxes Academy enables their learners to not only to achieve nationally recognised qualifications that will help them gain employment, but most importantly promote independent living skills that will help them to lead a rich, fulfilling life. They develop a personalised, holistic programme for each individual with a clear roadmap of progression and strive for excellence in all that they do. At Foxes Academy, ensuring outstanding results for their learners is their main goal in every aspect of their learning programmes. NATIONAL AUTISTIC SOCIETY, CAFE AUTISAN. Figure 27. Café Autisan provides an innovative environment for people on the autism spectrum to expand their skills and build self-esteem and confidence. They support several autistic people to work in the café, preparing and selling coffee, afternoon tea, cakes and sandwiches. Each person Cafe Autisan supports has the opportunity to complete an NVQ in catering and hospitality and achieve other recognised work-based qualifications including ASDAN. Gaining essential interview experience and developing their skill base will help young adults learn transferable skills that will help contribute to brighter employment prospects. “It feels good to be involved in the working world and to be part of such a positive team.
