THE ROYAL
GARRISON CHURCH.
The Royal Garrison Church, situated in Southsea, was built in
1212 by the Bishop of Winchester as part of a hospital and
hostel for pilgrims. Due to its many years standing, the church
has overcome multiple wars and adapted its use various times
for different reasons, such as an ammunition store as well as a
wedding venue.

I was drawn to the site due its unused space, history and location. Visiting the Royal Garrison Church
gave me inspiration to transform the building, however, I would not want to cause any damage to
its historic walls. Its unique, stone walls surrounded by the Southsea greenery create a calming, safe
environment to the visitors, which is something I would like to implement within my scheme.
