R2R students @ Guayaguayare R.C. School Read to Rise Evolution Read to Rise evolved at Guayaguayare R.C. School over a three year period and started in the early years as a book giving and collaborative reading initiative which promotes reading for children age three (3) to age twelve (12) and builds the availability and quality of books for schools, one classroom at a time, one school at a time and one community at time. The Read to Rise programme original concept proposed a simple strategy that draws on book giving, turn-key rotation and book exchange best practice models implemented internationally. In Year 3, R2R has matured into a comprehensive collaborative literacy initiative which makes reading a new habit for students through giving books, promoting reading, supporting families and partnering with schools, communities, key institutions and stakeholders. Read to Rise creates conducive learning environments at school and home through supporting and training families, creating literature rich- stimulating classroom spaces by placing books on classroom shelves, sharing talent & expertise through classroom visitations of authors, mentors, artists, national and community sport role models, and facilitating complementary resources through the development of institutional and individual partnerships. Read to Rise (R2R) works one classroom at a time, one school at a time, one community at time for children ages three (3) to age (12). The Read to Rise programme innovation in its R2R process which draws on community building and partnership development strategies combined with evidenced based strategies implemented internationally to develop 21st century young readers, creative learners and thinkers.
