Read to Rise Evolution
Read to Rise evolved at Guayaguayare
R.C. School over a three year period and
started in the early years as a book
giving and collaborative reading
initiative which promotes reading for
children age three (3) to age twelve (12)
and builds the availability and quality of
books for schools, one classroom at a
time, one school at a time and one
community at time. The Read to Rise
programme original concept proposed a
simple strategy that draws on book
giving, turn-key rotation and book
exchange best practice models
implemented internationally.
In Year 3, R2R has matured into a
comprehensive collaborative literacy
initiative which makes reading a new
habit for students through giving books,
promoting reading, supporting families
and partnering with schools,
communities, key institutions and
stakeholders. Read to Rise creates
conducive learning environments at
school and home through supporting and
training families, creating literature rich-
stimulating classroom spaces by placing
books on classroom shelves, sharing
talent & expertise through classroom
visitations of authors, mentors, artists,
national and community sport role
models, and facilitating complementary
resources through the development of
institutional and individual
partnerships.
Read to Rise (R2R)
works one classroom
at a time, one school
at a time, one
community at time for
children ages three (3)
to age (12).
The Read to Rise
programme innovation in its
R2R process which draws on
community building and
partnership development
strategies combined with
evidenced based strategies
implemented internationally
to develop 21st century
young readers, creative
learners and thinkers.
