READ TO RISE|
JULY 2016
FOREWORD
A Read to Rise Guayaguayare R.C. School
sets the bar high for all of us who are
interested in creating environments to
encourage reading and learning for
children ages 3 to 12 year olds. We have
learned and have experienced the beauty
of Guayaguayare’s environment which
influences the smallest of humankind the
children in the most wonderful and
serendipitous ways.
The children of Guayaguayare have
inspired all who have and who continue
to teach and support their learning daily.
Teachers, administrators, the assistant
principal and principal, including the
guards, lunchroom and cleanup crew are
committed to children of Guayaguayare
R.C. School and without their
commitment, the work of Bridge
Foundation’s Read to Rise programme
would have been an insurmountable and
arduous one.
We have concluded, with much heart
warming affection, that the children of
Guayaguayare R.C. school are in a special
place with people who care about their
educational experiences and their future.
Like all of us, we sometimes need help to
do things we all know matter and to
receive an extra boost of encouragement
to continue when challenges seem
daunting, particularly for those children
who experience learning difficulties, who
are unintentionally neglected by their
family and even community.
For three years 2014, 2015 and 2016 the
Read to Rise programme evolved whilst
working alongside school leadership,
teachers and parents to support children
learning. It has become much more than
responding to the early call of BG
Trinidad and Tobago to popularize the
classroom with books in response to the
dearth of books in the classroom.
Throughout the three years, Read to Rise
worked comprehensively and tirelessly
beside those integral to the school to
respond to the unique needs of
Guayaguayare R.C. to improve the
educational outcomes of the students.
Integral to the school are the teachers,
parents, administrator, the local and
central Ministry of Education supervisors
and the partnership community of BG
Trinidad and Tobago and their partners by
extension.
No doubt, all of our key teaching and
learning practices that impacted and
resonated with-in the school walls of
Guayaguayare R.C. would not have been
possible without BG Trinidad and Tobago
providing sponsorship and resources to
churn the wheels of buses traveling from
Port of Spain to Guayaguayare for the
many R2R partners and ambassadors: the
UWI students, their dedicated adjunct
professors
and behind the scenes UWI
C.E.O. Bridge Foundation
Head of Department, educational
Anthea McLaughlin
consultants, artists, NGO’s all of whom lift
the words off the page to stimulate
learning for Guayaguayare R.C. students.
