MAKING THE COMMITMENT
B
ridge Foundation Read to Rise (R2R)
acknowledges and thanks BG Trinidad
and Tobago, the sponsor of the Read to
Rise programme in the communities of
Mayaro and Guayaguayare.
BG Trinidad and Tobago sponsorship
and Commitment
BG Trinidad and Tobago has been
operating in Trinidad and Tobago since
1989, and is a key gas producer in the
country with a commitment to
strengthening relationships in
communities where BG works . A 2011
Social Impact Assessment of the East
Coast Marine Area conducted on behalf of
BG TT, identified the villages of Mayaro
and Guayaguayare as areas of direct
impact.
The Company’s 5 year education support
programme has committed to “focus on
interventions that build capacity in
schools within or close to the
communities within which the Company
has invested resources.”
Given the findings of its social impact
assessment, BG has provided funding
support to Read to Rise to popularise
and encourage reading, develop
children’s innate desire for reading by
increasing the accessibility and
availability of books in the schools
with special readings from well- known
Trinidadians and Tobagonians and the
provision of special resources to
support family engagement activities.
Read to Rise
The Read to Rise (RR) programme is
part of the Bridge Foundation early
literacy initiative which promotes
reading for children age three (3)
through nine (9).
It is a simple concept that draws on
book lending, turn-key rotation and
book exchange programmes
implemented in schools and
communities in the United States and
across the world.
Bridge Foundation
celebrated it's six year
anniversary in the
month of May
promoting literacy in
the classroom and
reaching the milestone
of two years of the R2R
programme at the
Guayaguayare R.C.
School.
The R2R programme is a best
practice model used by schools
internationally to gently introduce
books, to encourage reading
between child and parent and to
promote family- school- literacy
collaboration.
