Jumpstart Read for the Record Day
October 11, 2011
I magine school children in over fifty schools reading the
same book on the same day to promote the importance of
early literacy and reading.
Well, this was the reality throughout the East, West and
North and South corridors of Trinidad and Tobago. School
children in Trinidad and Tobago from over fifty primary
schools and early care and education centres participated
in Jumpstart Read for the Record global reading
celebration on October 6, 2011.
In Trinidad and Tobago, children and teachers in
classrooms, assembly halls, school corridors and libraries
resonated the words from the books Llama Llama Red
Pajama authored by Anna Dewdney and Grommit My Life
and Times authored by Andy Campbell.
“It was a colourful day” according to a teacher
from Bishop’s Anstey Junior
“It was a day to remember” according to a
teacher from Nelson Street Boys
Nelson Street Boys R.C (top) and Nelson Street Girls
R.C (bottom) Schools
“MOVTIVATING, INSPIRATIONAL, FUNNY AND
ENJOYABLE ” were the words of day.
The Bridge Foundation sponsored books for over 50
schools with donation of one hundred and twelve (112)
Llamas, Llama Red Pajama books from Jumpstart.
