Happy Spring fellow Border Batchers-It looks like Spring although a little slow to arrive is finally here and with it , the beer shows far and wide start happening once again . Our show at the Schell ’ s Brewery was a success with a full room of people on a cool but nice Spring Day . Sure is nice that Schell ’ s allows us to use their former tap room . It sure helps our out-of-town members decide whether to venture down to set up knowing that we now have a nice room safe from rain and wind that time of year . I personally saw a few nice items exchange hands and saw quite a few things walk out the door to people just visiting the brewery that day . I believe we signed up 4 new members and got quite a few renewals . Raffle proceeds were good and the food truck we hired from Arlington- Happy Days Comfort Food was superb . Thanks to all that came out and supported the show .
On another not so happy note , the officers of the chapter have decided to go to an electronic newsletter to help save money . It is costing the chapter a couple thousand dollars a year to print and send the newsletters and it is just a cost we can no longer afford along with the added work of folding , addressing , and sending the newsletters . They are still printable from your computer if you would like and the format we now use lends well to adding additional color and videos etc . Necessary evil I am afraid . More and more chapters are going this route and we held out as long as we could .
The dates have been set for our next shindig which will be the 4th annual Bago Bash held at the World-Famous Bird ’ s Nest in rural Winnebago . This show just keeps getting bigger and better and we have some new things planned for this year ’ s attendees . Mark your calendars for the third weekend of September with Friday night hospitality and Saturday show . There are already flyers out with hotel info and times on our website . Please call if you are bringing a motorhome or camper and plan to camp out on the grounds . Spots are available on a first come first served basis only . All the usual amenities will be on hand including porta-potties and food served both days . If you would like to bring some food and local beer to share , we obviously will not turn you down . No cost to set up or for public admission again this year . There will be an auction Saturday afternoon that always has some great stuff and maybe a few surprises . Contact myself or Big Bird for additional info . It will be epic once again .
Another great show on the horizon is the NABA show held the first weekend in August near Chicago . Easy driving distance and a national show to boot . Looks to shatter all previous attendance records . You must be a NABA member to attend so if you are not already a member it is the up-and-coming club especially if you are a brewerania collector . The magazine they put out is worth the dues alone usually averaging 90 to 100 pages most in full color . Being the Midwest membership director , I have membership applications and usually some sample previous magazines so hit me up or go to their website to see what they are all about .
If any members are ever passing through Winnebago , be sure to check out the Hamm It
Up sign shop right on Main Street and there is a good possibility a tour of the Bird ’ s Nest and the Bear ’ s Den can be arranged . Plus , we have a great little home owned tavern right next the Hamm It Shop called the Buzz Stop that welcomes collectors passing through with good ole Minnesota nice friendliness . Hope to see ya all at a show this Summer . Steve
