CANvention 2017 in Cleveland, OH was right up there with the best of them. We rolled into Cleveland on Wednesday evening after visiting and old friend in Mogadore. The hotel was excellent and featured a great view of Lake Erie, the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, Science Center and First Energy Stadium home of the Browns. We settled into our room and then cruised the hallways and checked out the rooftop bar. Thursday we started the day off at a great little diner called Shay s. The food was excellent and the prices were very fair. We ate breakfast there everyday. Grits and eggs and Halal which is made from beef and delicious! Next we took the girls to the Sweetie B s the worlds largest candy store. 40,000 sq. ft of candy. They were in heaven! There s candy in there that you haven t seen since you were a kid. And lots of regional sodas. Next we took the girls to a huge mall for some shopping. After that we were ready for lunch so we headed to Great Lakes Brg. Co. and had lunch and a wonderful award winning Dortmunder. As we were leaving Judy noticed a brewery across the street from Greal Lakes called Hansa Brewing Co. This place was awesome. The owner Boris Music is from Eastern Europe and the beers and food are all European and very authentic. He treated us to some free desert and I was wishing we had time to go back to place for a meal, but it was not to be. I highly recommend this place if you are ever in Cleveland. Miner s and Travis flew in that afternoon and we met up with them back at the hotel. Consumption of beer was on the agenda as it the Cornhusker Chapter s hospitality room to promote CANvention and then it was micro night. And a good one it was! Friday was a busy day! First it was of to Southeast Harley-Davidson to see Elvis s motorcycle. Then the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. It was very cool to say the least. After an afternoon touring the hall and hitting the gift shop we went outside for one of the best brisket sandwhiches I ve ever had and washed it down with a Great Lakes Dortmunder while sitting outside looking at Lake Erie. Next we hit the trade floor where I scored some cool Grain Belt pieces and an Old Dutch sham glass. Judy, Sue and Emma wandered off to a cool tavern and summoned us to join them. Beers on the sidewalk and beautiful weather. Friday night was the Jersey Shore party. We took it easy and went swimming with Aubrey and Haylee. Saturday morning it was one last breakfast at Shay s then the drive home. We went via Kenosha WI to pick up a neon from Stevan from Ron Thomas and a new friendship was begun. He s coming to the Mankato show with his wife. We then hit Potosi for supper and a beer. We were too late for the museum. More on that some other time. We arrived home around 1 a.m. and hit the mattress. What a great time! We are looking forward to Omaha in 2018. Page 9
