Guzzle-N-Twirl this year was good to me and we had lots of fun. New friends Ron and Pam Thomas from Wisconsin came for their first ever GnT. Judy, myself and Walker Texas Plumber took off for MN as soon as the kids got on the school bus. We stopped at the Bears Den on the way to drop of a Grain Belt Bottle cap neon I purchased that needed some TLC. Then we made our way to St. Paul. We rolled in around 12:35 and the Jay Martin brewery tour had left without us. So we joined up with Miner s and Thomas s and found a cool place I had never been to called Obs Tavern. We had a nice lunch and some good beers there. Then back to the hotel. It was a rainy day and we didn t feel like running around the cities in the rain. We got settled in the hotel and cracked a beer and stared walking the halls. Guzzle had a different feel to it this year as the hotel was undergoing renovations and everything above the 4th floor was under construction. Therefore the number of guests and rooms for R2R trading were way down. It was still fun and we saw some cool things, drank some Grain Belts and enjoyed the free pizza. Saturday morning we thought we d do something new for breakfast so Judy and I, Sue Miner and Texas Plumber went to Obs for breakfast. A good choice! Ron Thomas had brought me a couple of Danish Kringle from Racine. These things are delicious! Judy thought we needed to split them up so Sue and her could try different flavors so there we sat with 3 of these things getting cut up and sampled while waiting for our breakfast. We got a few curious looks from a few people. After breakfast we headed to Aldrich Arena and the big show. After 3 auctions and the new show at Starkeller I decided I was going to be a little conservative and only buy something if I couldn t live without it. As usual I started cruising the floor and you run into people you haven t seen Miller for a Caves while and on start the talking tour and it s actually kind of difficult sometimes to cover the entire floor. That was the case again this year. As the morning was slipping by I saw lots of cool things but nothing that was tugging at my wallet. Then my loving wife spotted 2 Grain Belt neons on a table on the north side. They were the old bottle cap ones like I had just bought, or so I thought at first glance. Let me regress for a moment. About 5 years ago I bought a bottle cap neon like the one at the bottom right. A friend of mine saw it and kept after me with offers of huge sums of money until I finally sold it to him. I thought I d never have a chance to own one of these again and Steve Miner kept reminding of that and asking how I could sell it. Well as I m standing at this guys table I notice the neon that was the furthest from where I was standing was the one I sold five years ago. About

this time some joker comes up and starts trying to but in on the neons. I told the seller to focus as I was already here and making an offer. I hit him with my offer and then waited. He came back meeting me in the middle and the deal was done. I got my sign back. I can t tell you how thrilled I was. Neon is very addicting. Now I have 3 bottle caps, the newer one put out by Schell s and the 2 older ones from Minneapolis Brg. Co. I can t wait to get them both up on the wall at Tavern on the Ridge. We left for Iowa around noon. Stopped in Mankato to talk to Curt at the brewery about our upcoming show, had a couple beers and continued on home. It was a great time that passed to quickly.
