The point of all this ? Here comes soap box time . I ’ ve been at this collecting gig for nearly 50 years now and just when you think you have seen everything , be assured you have not . I just seen an online auction , where an Arrowhead pull tab can from Cold Spring Brewing went for 30 bucks , plus shipping . These are as common as seeing Bob Jackson drink a beer , although that ’ s a bit rarer sight now . Anyway , I have several of these cans and can barely give them away . The old maxim is true “ a fool and his money are soon parted .” Why does seeing beer stuff for sale online drive people to madness ? More likely I think people are generally just simply stupid . I sold the same Arrowhead can for 1 buck at the April , Schell ’ s show . Little did my buyer know he saved 29 bucks plus shipping . Just as an FYI , I picked up a very nice Bohemian Club cone top from Idaho , for 40 bucks at this same show . Which by the way , if you did not attend , you missed a great time . When a layperson ( without knowledge ) attempts to sell a collection , like the girl from Marshall and tries to find out value by going online and sees the outrageous prices , of course you will be confused . As far as I ’ m concerned , online auction prices are an anomaly , a closed loop , a domain unto itself . It ’ s like playing Elvenar or Dungeons and Dragons , a fantasy world . It ’ s instant gratification ( patience not required ) by clicking enter with your index finger . Which reminds me of my first girlfriend , ( who was far more worldly than I was at the time ) she said , be patient , we ’ ll get there . Wise indeed .
These online prices do NOT reflect the real world . My advice , get your fat ass out of the chair that faces your computer , get off social media , attend a local show , make some friends , ( avoid politics and social issues , I know Duane S . would agree with that ) and have a beer . You are not going to own every beer related piece out there , no matter how much money you have , nor will you change minds to your frame of view . And besides all that , staring at a computer endlessly will give you brain rot . There are plenty of good cheap deals to be had , go find them , at a show , in real life .
Till next time , Jay # 16605
