Summertime, and the quaffing of your favorite brew goes down real easy. As I write this, the sky is sunny and the temp is in the low 80’ s. I ought to be outside soaking up some rays and tending to my BBQ smoker. But, first, let’ s revisit the show at Schell’ s from April. The Chapter had quite a large turnout in my view and the weather was cool but at least it did not rain. Plenty of stuff to look at and buy, if you had the cash, I just looked. Joe Germino, the BCCA Prez was in attendance, along with the usual suspects that come out of their cages for this show.
A table of some great food was available, lots of beer flowed from the tap room and the day zoomed by. The highlight for me( other than partying at Stubie’ s the night before) was the Brewery tour. Brewer Dave Berg gave two special tours to our Chapter and after that, he treated the club to a special keg of the Munich Dunkel, which was tapped by very own home brewer, Vance Donner. Hope everyone got to taste that beer, I know it went fast. A very loud shout out to Dave!!! Thanks!!! I also want to thank everyone who came to the show and all who helped with the food and anything else. Even if I can’ t remember all your names, your help is noted. Also thanks to Schell’ s Brewery for everything they have done for our Chapter.
Want to remind all, that“ Stubiefest” is fast approaching. Yeah, it will be here before you know it. September 13th is the big day. If you are planning on coming out and you have some Billy beer cans or anything else that you would like to see get the“ pee” shot out of( except your significant other) bring it along and we will do our best to put lots of holes in it. Also, bring a gun if you want take part in some blasting away. There is also a bar hopping hayride and“ croaking” later that evening. I mean, Karaoke. Don’ t forget to bring some Beer stuff to trade or sell, as this actually is a Breweriana show and not just a party. Don’ t miss this grand old time.
I’ m pretty sure by the time you read this; the Nordlager show will be history. This show takes place on July 12th in Cloquet at the famous Northeastern Bar / Hotel. I just can’ t tell
you how much I like this show; it is just simply a great time. Don’ t forget, Duluth is only 15 minutes north, so take a short drive there and stop at Lake Superior Brewing and pickup a couple of Growlers at Fitger ' s Brewhouse. We plan on camping again this year. So, hope to see some familiar faces.
Don’ t forget August 16th at the Larry Holm residence in New Ulm. This is the twice annual Border Batch chapter meeting. Our last meeting was in February at the Bryan Madsen residence in Owatonna. This is your chance to praise, complain or just“ hob knob” with the“ movers and shakers” of this club. Black tie optional.
Well, that pretty much does it for Presidential business. Now on to other to some other bits and pieces. Sure wished I lived in Duluth. Why? Fitger’ s Brewpub has started home delivery of their Growlers. You just call in your order and they will deliver to your doorstep. I believe this is the only Brewery in the States that does this. How cool is that!!
Since we have been to this place, I thought this was interesting. Worth Brewing in tiny Northwood, Iowa is supposedly the 895th largest Brewery in the USA out of 955. After“ touring” this Brewery I can’ t hardly believe there are smaller Brewery’ s than this. I mean, they are only brewing in 10-gallon batches.
I had planned on doing a Budweiser rant, but it just ain’ t worth my time anymore. Of course if I get requests to do a rant, I’ ll consider it.
Well, my BBQ, Schell’ s Stout, and the outdoors are calling, so here is my quote of the issue.“ Beer is the center of everything. Everything revolves around Beer. When you drink Beer, everything revolves. Therefore, Beer is the center of everything.” This quote is attributed to Mark Stueber as he was about to go to“ sleep” after last years Stubiefest. Till next time, Jay.
