NEWS GRID REPLACEMENT PROGRAM — ROUND 3
Mayor O ’ Connor hit the road , meeting various farmers and community members to kick start the successful round three grid replacement program , with grid replacement at no cost to the owner ; or $ 8,000 towards fencing if the farmer agrees to remove the grids .
This is the third year in a row that the Shire has run this program , which has generated local employment and provided safer roads . Under this program , Council has removed 28 grids , and replaced 123 grids ( from the total 352 grids shire wide ) with a wider and stronger design structure .
First stop was at Milroy – West Bend Road meeting land owners David Caswell , Any Sylvian , and Laughlin Ross . Five grids are planned for replacement under this program .
The second stop was at Jobs Gate , where farmers have been requesting the replacement of a couple of grids to allow them to capitalise on the available feed as a result of recent rain in the shire .
The third stop was at the periphery of the Shire with its Boundary with Bourke shire at Ellerslie station
Goodooga Crew Celebration
Council staff celebrated completing the construction works on the Goodooga to the QLD border . This was a significant achievement by all staff and contractors worked on this important link towards St George and further north .
