Dear Zoo Friends,
T hey’re almost here! This November, dinosaurs will return to the Space Coast
for the first time in five years. If you haven’t seen this exhibit in the past,
you’re in for a real treat—these life-size animatronic creatures look, move and
sound just how paleontologists believe their flesh-and-blood counterparts did.
They will take up residence along a lush trail flanked by several plant species
that existed alongside dinosaurs in the Mesozoic Era.
If you have experienced such a display before, there are plenty of new things
to discover, too. Many of the dinosaurs are next-generation models sporting
more lifelike appearances and enhanced ranges of motion. At the end of
the trail is the Dinosaur Discovery Center (DDC), a hands-on family learning
lab that offers a glimpse into how scientists use technology to study these
prehistoric beasts.
Almost every year, some Zoo staff fly to
Montana to join paleontologists as they
unearth the remains of dinosaurs; many
of the fossils we’ve collected on these
expeditions will be on display in the
DDC. A few lucky guests may have the
opportunity to assist volunteers as they
prepare these specimens for research!
Integrating many academic disciplines,
the study of dinosaurs perfectly models how science
informs and betters our world. We hope to see you immerse yourself in the
past in the near future!
Sincerely,
Keith Winsten, Executive Director
