Sustainability
Leadership
We recognize sustainability as an important
component of wildlife conservation and strive
to make it a priority in all of our day-to-day
operations. Employee representatives from
each department have joined together to
establish a “green team” responsible for
encouraging recycling, waste reduction,
energy efficiency and other sustainable
strategies throughout the Zoo.
In 2014, the Zoo’s green team developed
a plan to reduce waste in the animal care
department by upcycling animal feed bags.
The totes are sold in the Zoo’s gift shop
to fund sustainability efforts. They are
a great alternative to the single-use plastic
shopping bags that can injure wildlife.
