Hyrup said even though the contract clauses were triggered by USTR, they could become standard practice given ongoing trade uncertainties.“ I think this is a clause we have to get used to in this industry, that this will be permanent,” he said.“ Because we have these changes over and over and over.”
With competition from other carrier sectors likely to heat up— and an influx of containerized cargo that is likely to spill over into the MPV / HL sector over the summer— Hyrup said early engagement with shippers will be important.
“ It would be nice if everybody just decided to swim in their own lane,” he said.“ But that’ s not happening.”
