Mercedes Benz Fashion Week (MBFW) is my favorite time of the year. The week is filled with designers, celebrities, and—most importantly—style and fashion! New York City becomes stuffed with editors, buyers, retailers, and countless other fashion big wigs trying to catch as many shows as possible. MBFW is held biannually in February and September at the Lincoln Center and is New York City’s single largest media event. This event provides top designers an international platform to showcase their collections for the fall season (my favorite!). I’m talking 8 days filled with more than 80 designers displaying their newest collections that will forecast new trends and styles months ahead of time.
Many African-American designers bROKE THE bOX during fashion week and featured some amazing collections that included need-to-haves and can’t-live-withouts. Designers like Project Runway winner Dom Streater and First Lady Michelle Obama’s much loved Tracy Reese are showing the fashion world how they are both Black Girls Unlimited. Both designers made incredible collections that are need-to-sees and I’m here to rave about them to you.
The reigning winner of my favorite show “Project Runway,” Dom Streater, presented her first collection at this year’s New York Fashion Week. The West Philadelphia native was the show’s first-ever African-American winner and is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with in the industry
