Tour Travel Romania — Bran Castle, from Dracula to Royalty For the next 5 centuries, the Bran Castle undergoes several restorations, all under Transylvanian rule. In 1920, people of Brasov, with distinct admiration, gift the Bran Castle to Queen Maria of Romania. Bran soon became one of her favorite residences, as she restored after royal standards. She added a guesthouse, a wooden church, stables and a beautiful English Park. After her death, Bran was inherited by Princess Ileana, who continued to better it. A sarcophagus containing Queen Maria’s heart is located across the Castle, in a rock-carved crypt. The communist regime approached Bran differently, forcing royals to leave and transforming it into a museum, but took poor care of it. In 2009, the legal heirs regain the rightful possession of the Bran Castle. Whether it’s for the Impaler’s medieval times or for the royal imprint, the Bran Castle has always drawn visitors.
