Dracula to Royalty
The Bran Castle, one of the amazing castles of Romania, is situated near
Brasov, on the border between Wallachia and Transylvania. It has received a
lot of media coverage along the years under the alias of “Dracula’s Castle”
due to Bram Stoker’s famous novel, although Vlad the Impaler had little
contact with it.
The history of this castle is surprisingly old, dating back from the 13 th
century. The fortress of Bran was erected by the Teutons, in 1211 but they
were urged to leave the area after 15 years of residence.
The name of Bran is of Turkish etymology and it translates as “gate”.
