What’s up
with
Ethics?
Key point 1: Know the syllabus inside out!
When I speak to my classmates and seniors about the BPTC, a
common theme usually recurs: every person who has sat for the
BPTC is terrified of this paper.I was no exception. This fear is
warranted: we are given no definitive guidelines on the proper
essay techniques and we are expected to know a mountain of
ethical rules and work procedures for the exam. This paper will
potentially be your worst academic nightmare so here are some
tips that helped me pass the paper in my first sit.
As aforementioned, download the syllabus from the BSB website
and faithfully do your reading according to it. You might be
tempted to skip certain parts i.e. QASA, the scope of practice,
qualified persons. DO NOT DO THIS. There was at least one
question on these boring bits in my paper and it was then I was
incredibly thankful for going through the trouble of making flow
charts to help myself remember what procedures barristers had to
follow before moving to another chamber.
Other than that, make sure you can recite the Core Duties without
much trouble and that you know the associated rules of each
Core Duty.
