BOXING MAD MAGAZINE #4 | Page 44

Lytham St Annes lightweight prospect, Scotty Cardle, had a busy first year as a pro. He fought and won eight times in eight months from March to November last year. He recorded three wins on points over four rounds, two wins on points over six rounds and one win on points over eight rounds. He also won two fights inside the distance by stoppage.

He next steps in to the ring this month on 22nd Febuary for his ninth pro fight, which takes place at Rotherham's Magna Centre.

J.McK - Can you tell me a bit about how you got into boxing, Scotty?

S.C - I was always interested in sport. I was brought up in a football family so I started playing that. After watching my first boxing match on the telly I knew it was the sport for me! Started at the age of 7 and loved it from then.

J.McK - With each fight you have, you learn something different. What have you learnt from your eight pro fights?

S.C - A lot! No disrespect to my last eight opponents, but I feel I have been matched up with them just to figure out the transition from amateur to professional. It has helped. I learnt a lot about the ring craft and I feel it will help me to step up hopefully this year!

J.McK - There's some very tough fighters at your weight. No doubt you'll eventually be meeting some of them as you aim for domestic titles. How long do you think it will be until you can mix it with Britain's current crop of top lightweights?

S.C - Hopefully not long at all! I understand I'm still an apprentice in the pro game. Hopefully I have another successful and busy year this year and I'll be able to mix with the best of Britain!
