BO’s Response: I agree that the punishment for this type of thing should be severe, but where do you draw the line between a robbery and just slightly bad judging? How do we decide what judging is bad enough to result in a life ban? Would this result in even more controversy if the wrong people were banned?

@jKidd2624: Audits into their bank accounts to see if “random” cash shows up. Make them explain their scoring of the fight.

BO’s Response: The first way would definitely stop the judges from being bribed but can’t see it being allowed as they would no doubt call it “invasion of privacy.” I 100% agree with making them explain their scoring of the fight. I’ve seen some robberies so blatant that not even the best talkers would be able to talk their way out of

@jKidd2624 (Second Tweet): Be nice to see the judges position changed. Give them a better view of the action so they can see landed punches cleaner.

BO’s Response: Very sensible idea. Where would you move them to give them a better view? This would definitely make the judging better overall but unfortunately we’d still have the corrupt judging of fights every so often.

@ShoutTrad: Add more judges. Not all of them would give into bribes or just make crappy decisions.

BO’s Response: Interesting idea, but how many would you add? And would the majority of them still take bribes or be biased? It would make the scoring more efficient and give us a better overview of the fight but I don’t think it would have much effect on the corrupt scoring.

@JoseGurule: Let former fighters be judges. They know what to look for in the fights, they can see what a lot of present judges can’t.

BO’s Response: This could definitely work! Their first-hand experience would mean that most of them would know exactly what to look for. They would also know what it’s like to be a boxer and prepare for a fight son they wouldn’t want to put anyone through the pain of robbery.

@thefightscore: I think you have to demote. Especially if their scorecard is way off. Say to 6-8 round level for a set amount of time.

BO’s Response: This idea could also work. Would still be tough to decide how bad the judging has to be for them to be punished, but the idea of them being demoted to the lower level fights would scare them into scoring the fights properly.

So as you can see, a lot of people have ways in which they believe the problem could be helped to be solved, but how much effect would any of these methods actually have? We then asked our followers if they believed the problem will ever be fully gone from the sport of boxing:
