Prizefighter Welterweights III Review
The fight was stopped with 0:20 seconds to go of round 1 and could have easily have been stopped earlier. Gaynor comfortably through and Cooper's unbeaten record gone.
The fourth and final quarter-final saw unbeaten 25-year old Sunderland boxer Glenn Foot take another unbeaten boxer in 28-year old Steven Pearce of Stourbridge.
The opening round saw Foot in control of the fight but Pearce ended the round strongly. The round still went to Foot. Foot came out strong in round 2 and sent Pearce to the canvas after landing a right hand to the top of Pearce's head. Foot then went in for the kill and got the job done inside the distance with 1:47 of second round remaining. Pearce's unbeaten record also gone.
SEMI FINALS - Thompson vs Evans : Gaynor vs Foot
The semi-finals were predicted to be great fights and they both did not disappoint!
Thompson and Evans were up first.
It was a great opening round from Evans. He did not look like the underdog as his work rate was exceptional and his foot work equally impressive. He forced the issue again in round 2 and it seemed like Thompson was not only struggling to get to grips with his opponent but was not throwing his right hand much either, which suggested that he may have hurt it during the fight. In round 3 though he faired better and had a go. Evans looked to be tiring as each second of the round elapsed after putting in a fine effort. Thompson won the third round but was denied victory as Evans claimed a 29-28, 29-28, 29-28 unanimous decision.
Gaynor and Foot were due next.
Gaynor established his left jab in round 1 but Foot's work rate was more impressive and was responding with some very well timed right hands. Rounds 2 and 3 were tough rounds to score but Foot's work rate continued to impress and he was landing some accurate shots also. Gaynor was also responding with some clean shots of his own. Two tough rounds to score but Foot was the deserving winner as it proved as the judges scored the fight 30-28, 30-27, 29-28 in his favour. Prospect Gaynor had lost his unbeaten record.
THE FINAL - DALE EVANS vs GLENN FOOT
So the two best fighters on the night were to meet in the final for the £32,000 cheque but most importantly to be crowned the Prizefighter Welterweight III champion!
Both boxers stormed in to the centre of the ring and for the majority of the first round were feeling each other out, but Foot was aiming to land the overhand right hand and Evans seeked to time Foot with left hooks. In the second round the action got better as both boxers exchanged big shots. Foot was still intent on landing a big right hand with Evans aiming to land counter left hooks with a big right hand.
Evans was also aiming to establish his jab but Foot's work rate was and movement was making Evans miss many times.
