Booringa Fire and Water Festival
Following an eight year hiatus, Booringa Action Group are
bringing the Booringa Fire & Water Festival back to the
Maranoa over the weekend of September 20-21, 2019.
Booringa means “fire and water” in the Gunggari language
and this festival has been created to honour people’s
connections (Nalingu) to the country that gives life and
livelihoods to everyone who calls the region home. The
Booringa Fire and Water Festival will celebrate the
communities’ unique history and connection to this land and,
all the wonderful things Mitchell and surrounds have to offer.
The two day event will start with a three course camp oven
dinner hosted by St.Patrick's School Mitchell. The theme of
the evening is "lets take a walk through time” and will be
shown through a slideshow projection of Mitchells rich history.
This will be accompanied by live music from Mitchell artist
Maggie Caskey. Students will also be presenting songs and
dances they’ve learnt. To book your your place at this exciting
event, email [email protected].
Saturday’s festivities commence at 12pm and are jam-packed
with family fun, food and entertainment for all ages. A range
of exciting live acts will perform including local musicians,
dancers and, fire twirlers. A brilliant local market will run until
5pm with stallholders selling baked goods, candles, sweets,
leather goods, River Sands wines, and more! Kids will be
kept busy with the jumping castle, water slide and face
painting. There will also be a great variety of food on offer too,
with wood fired pizzas, Indian, burgers, soft-serve and coffee
van and a licensed bar until late.
