Cobb & Co Festival -
Australia’s most unique
Bush Festival
Over nine days the Maranoa Region and in
particular, Surat and Yuleba celebrated the
95th Anniversary of Australia’s last Cobb & Co
Coach Run. From the sight of the Coach
from the Changing Station Museum travelling
the Cobb & Co Way in full flight pulled by a
team of 5 horses to the twelve strong bullock
team and wagon giving rides across the
schools of the Maranoa and over 30 events
at 30 different venues saw a record 6000
participants enjoy the Cobb & Co Festival.
Highlights included the Festival Opening with
Bushranger Street Drama, the Long Table
Dinner, the Cobb & Co Ball, the Kelly
Connection Lunch, the Country of Beauty &
Brawn Art Exhibition by Kathy Ellem, the
Drovers’ Story Exhibition opening, the
Outside broadcast by Belinda Sanders from
ABC Southern Queensland, the Hearty
Country Dinner, the Cobb & Co Festival
Concert staring Tania Kernaghan, Chris
Pritchard and Terry Arnold, the Riverside
Markets in Surat, the 90 horse riders and the
30 horse drawn vehicles making the 76km trip
from Surat to Yuleba over 2 days, all the food
stops along the Cobb & Co Way especially
the Camp Oven Dinner under the Stars at
Wallabella, the Bush Dancing with the Crack
Up Sisters, the accordion music by Skippy the
Swaggie, the display by Frosty the
Blacksmith, the Clip Clop

made grand entrances
into the Yuleba Markets.
The Cobb & Co Coach
collected the mail and
passengers and was
pulled by magnificent
teams of horses over
the same 76km trip
from Surat to Yuleba
where the mail was
delivered and the
passengers arrived
safely at the Yuleba
Markets led in by the
Light Horse Riders.

Wallumbilla and
Yuleba were very
active over the
weekend and of
course The Crack Up
Sisters couldn’t resist
getting involved. What
a great weekend for
the region, see you all
again in 5 years for the 100 th anniversary.
