Yuleba Cobb & Co Park
development
Works on the Yuleba Cobb & Co Park
Redevelopment Project Stage 1 have kicked
off and are scheduled to be completed in time
for the Cobb & Co Festival happening in
August this year. This redevelopment is the
first stage of the Yuleba Cobb & Co Park
Master Plan which was adopted in April 2019.
Councillor Puddy Chandler, Portfolio Chair for
Tourism said that the Master Plan provides a
long-term vision for the Cobb & Co Park,
identifying the look and functionality into the
future.
“The Cobb & Co Park Redevelopment Project
will see the transformation of the park on
Warrego Highway in Yuleba into a space for
tourists and locals to enjoy,” Cr Chandler said.
“Stage 1 will focus on the land directly
adjacent to Perry Street and will replace the
existing infrastructure. This will include new
park furniture featuring a picnic table and
shelter, water fountain and banner poles.
“The park furniture has been kindly donated
by the Yuleba Development Group, through
funding received from Santos and MPC
Kinetic as part of their community grant
programs.” Future developments of the
Master Plan will allow for short stay camping,
formal car parking, picnic shelters

The Cobb & Co Festival will take place over
nine days from 17 - 25 August and featuring
18 different events. The Festival takes place
only every 5 years and if you miss this year’s
celebrations, you’re sure to regret it.
The programme includes Opening
Celebrations, Drama, Bushrangers and
Bullocks and Dinner in the Street in Yuleba
and the Cobb & Co Ball on Saturday, 17
August. Throughout the week, the bullock
wagon will visit all the Maranoa’s major towns.
There will also be Saleyard visits, Museum
Display Opening, Art gallery opening, Tanya
Kernaghan Concert, Bushranger themed
Dinner at the Barn and concluding with the 2
day trip to Yuleba with the Coach, horse
drawn vehicles and riders. There will be a
Camp oven Dinner under the Stars on the
Saturday night with entertainment as well as
major markets and displays and rides at both
Surat and Yuleba.
Cobb & Co’s most famous voyage was
Service No177’s last trip from Surat to Yuleba
on August 14, 1924 (95 years ago), retiring
the Cobb & Co Coach service in Australia.
After the last coach rolled into Yuleba on that
day, the driver Fred (Tommy) Thompson
drove the return run in a seven seater
international truck. At the same time,
QANTAS was carrying mail in Queensland.
Cobb & Co Coaches carried the mail,
passengers and goods along many routes
across Australia with approximately 100
Coaching Routes in Queensland alone.
Almost every regional town has a Cobb & Co
Story. For example, Cobb & Co had a factory
which built Coaches in Charleville.
The Surat & District Development Association
and the Yuleba

are working together
to organise the Cobb
&Co Festival with
support from the
Maranoa Regional
Council, Tourism
Events Queensland
and FRRR. In this
anniversary year,
they’ve expanded the festival from a three day
program (2014) edition to nine days that
should not be missed! You can find the
program and event poster is on page 10.
