Sandy: I love telling this story. Ok, so I entered the competition Bank of Hollywood, produced by Ryan Seacrest. So it was like Shark Tank meets America's Got Talent. You had to prove to a panel of judges why they should give you money to pursue your Talent or business. This story was a true testament to my faith. Let me break it down. I was working 80-hour weeks as a researcher. Now I also had a fashion show that day, and when I got there I was number… A trillion! Those people do not care what you have going on; you have to be there to audition when they are ready.
"So it was like Shark Tank meets
America's Got Talent."
I get there late, and the line is ridiculously long. I get to talking to people, and they are giving me tips to get to the front. They told me to fake that I was pregnant. I was not about to do that. Ok. So I walk past everyone in line and go to the front, and there is NO ONE at the door. I walk past the door into the building. And I saw someone in headphones and asked if there was any way I could be seen next and he said "What's your talent?" and then he says "ok, show me" I said, "I have a plus-size dance troop, and I'm going to model." I did not have a plus-size dance troop with me; it was just me. So he asked to see my Talent, and like I did a 5 second Beyoncé move and a hair flip, and I was talking smack about backing it up, and boom! He calls someone on his headset, and he says, wait, right here.
